A Half Century of Telling (Y)our Story
The Society is celebrating 50 years of preserving and sharing our local history. On May 29, 1974, our constitution and by-laws were formally adopted. The establish of a steering committee, determination of membership dues, and acceptance of initial donations also underscored a growing community commitment. Grandview Heights resident Win Keller led the charge in establishing the organization.
Today, 50 years later, the Society continues its mission to discover, collect, and preserve information and materials pertaining to the founding and development of Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff. Guided by a dedicated volunteer Board of Trustees, the Society's efforts ensure the legacy of Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff endures for generations to come.
History Walks Newest Tour: Notable Namesakes
What's in a name? Do you know how your street was named or how the Grandview Heights Schools' athletic field at Bobcat Stadium became Anderson Field? That's what you'll discover with the latest History Walks tour "Notable Namesakes." Learn how local residents have been commemorated with namesake buildings or streets in our communities. These stories offer a peek into the history of the communities and residents of Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff.
Celebrating a Winner
One of the first celebrations of the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Historical Society's (GH/MCHS) 50th anniversary was entering a cake at the Grandview Heights Schools’ BOBCake Bash, formerly known as the cakewalk. Based on a bit of local history of Grandview Heights girls dancing around a maypole (as illustrated in a 1918 photograph from the Alleyne Higgs collection), the cake's maypole theme was chosen. The maypole dance is a ceremonial folk dance performed around a tall pole with ribbons that are woven into complex patterns by the dancers.
Final Salute Digital Timeline
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, the Society, in collaboration with the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL), introduced its second interactive timeline. With information digitized from the Society's Final Salute publication, this timeline honors individuals from Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff who died in the service to our country. Enjoying Stauf’s Java Journey
Nothing better than savoring a cup of Stauf's coffee and learning about their 35 years in Grandview Heights. The Society highlighted Stauf's Coffee Roasters on September 12 at their program Stauf's Java Journey. Mark Swanson, president of Stauf's Coffee Roasters and Cup O'Joe, shared Stauf's history as Columbus' first micro roaster, and how their coffee, customers, and business have changed in 35 years at their original Grandview Avenue location. The Society provided insight into Stauf's Grandview Heights location on the historic Bank Block which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
2023 Memorial Day Parade
The Society showed its patriotism by its presence in the 2023 Grandview Heights Memorial Day parade. Trustees exhibited the Society’s new logo and handed out fliers highlighting History Walks.
Stauf’s Java Journey
Join us on September 12 at Stauf's Coffee Roasters on Grandview Avenue to learn about Stauf's history as Columbus' first micro roaster, and how their coffee, customers, and business have changed in 35 years at their original Grandview Avenue location. Mark Swanson, President of Stauf's Coffee Roasters and Cup O' Joe, will be the evening's featured speaker. Attendance is free, but seats are limited. Registration is required (click here).

Poker on the Avenue
Join us for the Society’s POKER ON THE AVENUE event on July 20, 2023. The evening will raise awareness for the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Historical Society. ThisWeek Tri-Village News Ceases Production, Ending Publication of Moment in Time
ThisWeek Tri-Village News announced that it will cease publication of the local newspaper on January 26, 2023. With that comes the last entry of the Society’s Moment in Time (MIT) in a local newspaper. Pictured is the photo from the first MIT published March 29, 2004. Be Part of Grandview Heights Schools Next Chapter of History
Grandview Heights Schools will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the comprehensively renovated Grandview Heights High School located at 1587 West Third Avenue, Columbus. All are welcome. The open house will commence when the ceremony concludes.
History Walks: 2022 Tour of Homes
History Walks is an app-based walking tour in Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff. The newest tour, 2022 Tour of Homes, offers the opportunity to take a street view tour of the notable homes showcased in the Society’s recent Tour of Homes.
Society Supports Our Friends at the Grandview Heights Public Library Foundation
Again this holiday season, the Society provided a bit of history for the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL) Foundation’s Holiday Gift Box. Included in this year’s box is a set of four coasters that present local historical events.

Donations of Art: Two Historic Marble Cliff Homes
Donations were recently made to the Society of art representing two Marble Cliff homes, the Manor House at 1427 Roxbury Road (#10 Arlington Place) and 1492 Roxbury Road.
