G. Edwin Smith Residence

As stated in the GHMCHS “Sheltering a Heritage” publication, this home was built for G. Edwin Smith, owner of G.Edwin Smith Shoe Company.It has undergone many additions. It is currently home to the Kosnik family.

The above interior photograph is from the January 1910 edition of the Ohio Architect and Builder. The promotional photograph was published by J. Upton Gribbon, whose architectural firm had just renovated the home for Ms. Eva Gray. This residence at 1176 Fairview had been built 5 years earlier for G. Edwin Smith, owner of the G. Edwin Smith Shoe Company (below photo montage). The home was originally designed and built by Frank Packard. Mr. Gribben worked with Frank Packard from 1895 to 1905, started his own firm in 1906 and was in private practice for 50 years. This room remains in its original condition.
