One of the original homes in Grandview was on the northeast corner of what is now Grandview and First Avenues. The home was on the Charles Salzgaber farm, and was built in 1903 to accommodate the growing family. Three generations of Salzgabers occupied the home until it was sold in 1984.

Anna Dodge Dillman is shown with her husband Hugh Dillman and his family on the lawn of the former Bush mansion on Roxbury Road in Marble Cliff. Anna was the former wife of the Dodge automobile co-founder, Horace Dodge. The heiress purchased the Roxbury mansion as a residence for her new husband’s family.

The Scioto Water Purification Plant and Pumping Station on Dublin Road near Grandview was built in 1908 to include water treatment processes in order to provide clean water to Columbus. Impetus for the plant resulted from the death of a prominent U.S. senator from typhoid fever from drinking tainted water.

Rev. Oliver C. Weist, pastor of First Community Church in Marble Cliff, is dressed as a Keystone Cop for the tri-village Field Day celebration.

Cartoonist Billy Ireland created this caricature of Harry D. Freeman of Grandview, depicting him as a sailor on his catboat in reference to his association with the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. He served as the Commodore of the Club in 1912.

The Sells Brothers Circus started in Columbus and wintered in Sellsville, just north of King Avenue near the Grandview boundary. At one point they were the second largest circus in the nation, with tours that took them all over the country

Seven best friends from the Class of 1922 from Grandview High School called themselves the “Pleiades”, or the Seven Sisters from Greek mythology.

The Kindergarten Annex was built in 1949 to accommodate the new kindergarten program that was implemented for the school district that year. The building will be torn down as part of the district’s school campus project.

First Avenue resident Blanche Field Holmes was a New York and Chicago trained dancer and dramatic actress who started and ran a dance studio for adults and children in Grandview Heights.

World War II flyers depicting the process for recycling tin cans to be used in the war effort were distributed to communities by the federal War Production Board.

Frank “Dude” Higgs poses in a photo taken by Life magazine’s Clare Boothe Luce in front of his Chinese China National Aviation Corp. transport airplane in 1942, when Luce was on assignment in Burma for the magazine. Higgs flew Luce and others from Lashio, Burma after the Japanese threatened the eastern coast.

Bradley Skeele is shown at age 21 in this 1922. The Skeele family members were prominent residents in Marble Cliff.

Lola Celli was reported missing from near her family home in Grandview in February 1946. Still a cold case, it was called "the red shoe mystery." The case has been featured on network television cold case shows.
